Bakewell Farm: On the Road
Project Four promotes community engagement using a communal oven similar to those traditionally found throughout France's village bakeries, known as le four banal.
This program, offered to families and individuals, includes basic classes in bread making, where participants will learn techniques for hand mixing, fermentation, and shaping. When dough is ready for baking, participants return to Bakewell Farm's wood-fired oven, where they will be assisted in the process of baking their loaves.
Sharing recipes, refining technique, and sharing the frustrations all become part of a valuable exchange among bakers during the course of this program. No special tools are required to prepare bread dough for baking, and participants are invited to repeat this program, returning to the communal oven as often as they would like.
